Spam causes/prevention

Cause
Spam (unwanted e-mail) can be caused by number of factors. The most common causes are:

1. The e-mail address is visible on the internet as a link or text - enter your e-mail (right) to search and check.
2. PC virus/worm infection - on the PC, or a PC with your e-mail in the address book.
3. Guessing - where spammers guess the e-mail address.
4. Poor e-mail security - entering the e-mail into a website before fully reading the t's & c's.

Prevention

1. Do not advertise e-mail online as a link or text (ie as part of your business). Check whether your e-mail is online enter:

   Keep up to date with antivirus & windows patches (regular scanning recommended).

   Be mindful of which websites you give your e-mail too.

Cure
Adopting the following steps will help reduce spam:
